Child psychotherapy in schools

Child psychotherapy in specialist and mainstream schools in Staffordshire

I have many years experience in offering therapy to children and young people in schools, either accepting referrals from schools or visiting the school. I’m specialised in working with autistic children and young people and those with learning disabilities, who are also experiencing distress, or who have experienced trauma, attachment difficulties, and mental health difficulties. My offer includes but is not limited to:

  • Individual psychotherapy for children and young people with a multitude of presenting difficulties (see my individual therapy page), either at school or in my consulting room
  • Under fives work for young children in nursery or early years settings
  • School based observations and assessment of needs and support/signposting/therapeutic intervention
  • Parent support
  • Professionals meetings as required and with the consent of the child/young person
  • Staff supervision either 1:1 or via reflective practice groups
  • Support and training for teaching staff, regarding trauma informed approaches, sensory needs, reasonable adjustments, and responding to communications of distress
  • Support for staff teams in considering the child’s relationship to the school as a whole and how to flex to meet the needs of children who have experienced relational difficulties and trauma
  • Group-work for children and young people around a number of presenting difficulties or needs
  • Support for asylum seeking and refugee children, and care experienced youngsters
  • Therapeutic support for children and young people who communicate via non-speaking methods
