Psychoanalytic child psychotherapy for children in foster-care and residential care in Staffordshire
I’m a specialist in working therapeutically with children in special guardianship, foster-care, and in residential settings. I have worked intensively offering over three times weekly work to children in residential care where there are concerns that residential and school placements may break down, or where the child is showing us concerning behavioural communications about the levels of unprocessed trauma they are experiencing. It is highly important in therapy with care experienced children to, where appropriate and consented to, include as much of the network as possible to foster a professional family around the child. I have also offered short term therapeutic assessment to children and young people who aren’t quite ready for an intensive therapeutic offer, followed by carer and network support, and I have experience of working with young people who are leaving care during their transition into independence.
I offer an adapted model of therapeutic support tailored to each child in care, dependent on assessment, which can include:
- Detailed assessments to gather the voice of the child and ensure it is heard
- Joint-work with a trusted keyworker to form a gradual assessment of need, or as a short term piece of work
- Regular professionals and network meetings
- Consultations to professionals working with the child or young person
- Reflective practice and staff work discussion groups for residential home teams and specialist schools
- Individual child and adolescent psychotherapy up to five times a week to support children and young people with high levels of support need to remain steady in their placement
- Carer support with either foster-carers or residential keyworkers
